Kids (18 and under) and seniors (65+) are partially covered for annual routine eye exams. All ages are partially covered for any ocular emergencies such as eye infections, flashes and floaters, diabetic health checks, foreign objects in the eyes, etc.

As of early 2025, Alberta Health Care (AHC) introduced substantial cuts to the billing codes for optometric services. Due to these changes, many clinic visits that were once fully covered now require a patient co-payment. We will continue to submit claims to AHC for the covered portion of your eye exam, but a co-payment will be necessary to cover the remaining cost.

Eye exams are recommended yearly for kids and seniors and every 1-2 years for healthy adults. Even if you feel your vision has not changed, regular routine eye exams are important because many common eye diseases have no initial symptoms but can be prevented if diagnosed and treated early by a Doctor of Optometry.

Dry eye symptoms are commonly experienced by Calgarians due to the lack of humidity and frequent weather changes. There are many people who also suffer from dry eye syndrome due to an underlying condition causing inadequate lubrication of the eyes. The good news is there are a wide variety of treatment options for the management of dry eye.
