Meet the Doctors
Dr. Brady Turner
Dr. Turner is a native of Grande Prairie, Alberta and in 2007 completed his Bachelor of Science in biology at the University of Alberta with a minor in Psychology. In 2011, he graduated with honors, and obtained his Optometric Doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois and was one of only two in his class to receive the VSP Scholarship for Clinical Excellence.
His clinical interests include dry eye and contact lenses, including specialty fits. In 2010, he was fortunate to be involved in a volunteer mission to Honduras where he helped provide specialty eye care services to thousands of people in need. In his spare time he enjoys golf, weight training and spending time with his wife Janessa, kids Presley and Beckett, and dogs Maisie and Lacey.
Dr. Turner is a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists (AAO) and the Calgary Society of Optometrists (CSO).
Dr. Turner’s Passion for Optometry:
I am legally blind in my right eye. I was born with a rare syndrome that resulted in several birth anomalies including 90% closure of my right eyelid and a significant eye turn. By the time those eye issues were surgically corrected I developed significant amblyopia which meant I did not develop functional vision with that eye. Furthermore, I have a neurotrophic right cornea meaning I have little to no feeling of the eye. Due to the lack of corneal sensation I do not produce adequate tears which results in significant dry eye. When I was a young child my eye got so dry I developed a corneal ulcer and ever since then I have had to use moisturizing eye drops several times a day every day. Thankfully these birth defects only affected my right eye but I also do have myopic astigmatism of my left eye which means I must wear glasses or a contact lens in order to see well. I take great pride in being able to use not only my knowledge of optometry but also my personal experiences when providing care for my patients.
Dr. Kiran Toor
Dr. Kiran Toor is a proud Calgarian, born and raised in this vibrant city. Her journey to becoming an accomplished optometrist has taken her across continents, but her heart has always been in Calgary.
She embarked on her academic journey right here at the University of Calgary, where she completed her undergraduate studies. Driven by a passion for eye care, she decided to further her education and traveled to the United Kingdom, where she earned her Optometry degree in Cambridge. During her time in the UK, she gained invaluable experience in the field of optometry, honing her skills and knowledge.
Dr. Toor continued her pursuit of excellence by attending the renowned New England College of Optometry in Boston, USA. There, she further expanded her expertise.
Dr. Kiran Toor’s career has taken her to different corners of the world, including the UK, USA, and Canada. Her diverse experiences have equipped her with a unique perspective on eye care, allowing her to offer the best practices from around the globe to her patients in Calgary.
Dr. Toor has a particular passion for addressing a range of eye health concerns. Her areas of expertise include dry eyes, myopia control, and providing routine eye exams for patients of all ages, from kids to seniors and adults. She believes that proactive eye care is essential to maintaining optimal vision and eye health throughout life.
Now proudly serving her hometown, Dr. Kiran Toor is excited to be your trusted Calgary optometrist. She is currently accepting new patients and is dedicated to providing the highest quality of eye care to the local community.
Outside of her practice, Dr. Toor enjoys staying active through her love for volleyball and cherishes moments spent with family and friends. Her commitment to a balanced and fulfilling life extends to her dedication to your eye care needs.
Dr. Bimal Kaur
Dr. Bimal Kaur graduated from ICO (Illinois College of Optometry), Chicago in 2007 with Distinction on the Dean’s List of Cum Laude Honours. She is an alumnus of the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science Degree, double majoring in Biochemistry & Biology. While undertaking her undergraduate degree, she was involved in heart research at the St. Boniface Research Centre.
She also worked for a year at the Chemistry/Genetic Laboratory at the Health Sciences Centre after graduating from the University of Winnipeg. Dr. Kaur completed her internship at ICO, specializing in Paediatrics and externships in Connecticut (Newington Veterans Affair Hospital) and Michigan (Kresge Eye Institute), with highlighted skills in specialized contact lens fitting, corneal diseases, cataract pre-operative and post-operative management, glaucoma, and retinal diseases. She worked as an associate after graduating from ICO and decided to venture forth with her own practice, Lotus Vision Care, in February of 2009. She sold her Practice in June of 2022 and relocated to Calgary to pursue a specialty in different forms of Dry Eye Treatment along with 16 years of experience in Primary Care Optometry.
Dr. Kaur was a member of SVOSH (Student Volunteers for Optometric Service to Humanity) which facilitates the provision of vision care worldwide to needy people who cannot afford and obtain such care. In her voluntary capacity role, she attended weekly meetings to sort and package used eyeglasses donated by the Lions Club and other Organizations for distribution to the needy recipients. She funded her own mission trip to Honduras with a team of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, student Optometrists, Opticians, and Optometric assistants in 2006 that provided eye services to over six thousand people. Dr. Kaur also provided volunteer services to One Sight in Winnipeg offering free eye exams to children, families, and communities in Winnipeg and surrounding areas. She traveled to India in 2015 for 2 weeks providing eye health services to the poor and needy where most have not had any eye exams. She is an avid traveler and her most recent mission trip was to El Salvador in 2019, where she volunteered her time for the setup of an eye clinic with other health professionals in the area to promote eye care education and services. Her future undertaking is to do volunteer services of this nature for 2 to 3 weeks in third-world and developing countries every year.
Dr. Kaur is also a graduate of Bharatanatyam (Indian Classical Dance) and actively gives stage performances from time to time. Her interest in dancing has led her to currently train in Latin, hip hop, and ballroom dancing. She also loves cycling with her family on the beautiful bicycle paths of Calgary.
Meet The Staff
Mary – Office Manager
Mary has been in the optical industry since 1988 (or in her words, a gazillion years!) and joined our eye gallery family in 2019 as office manager. She is our go-to expert for all things optical! With her extensive knowledge of frame fitting, adjustments, and choosing the perfect lens designs, she provides above and beyond service for every patient she sees. Assisting our patients in the eyewear process and allowing them to see their world clearly, while wearing a frame that puts a smile on their face is what Mary loves most about the industry. She has been an exceptional leader for our team and continues to mentor and teach us all her optical secrets (for which we are incredibly grateful!).
Mary was born in Stettler, Alberta, but spent most of her life growing up in Calgary. She has many interests including travelling, cars, and once upon a time, hot air balloons! In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, or with her loving husband.
Charlotte – Assistant Manager
Charlotte (Char for short) joined the optical industry in 2014, and completed her Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant designation in 2016 through The Canadian Association of Optometrists before joining the eye gallery family in 2018. As a Jill-of-all-trades, she’s just as at home fitting your first pair of glasses as she is educating you about the latest lens technologies, and everything in between. Charlotte’s favorite part of the optical industry is getting to know patients and their families, repairing broken eyewear (A.K.A. Mrs. MacGyver), and fitting specialty safety and sports eyewear.
Charlotte was born in Calgary and has moved several times between here and Ontario throughout her life. She has an avid love for genealogy and family history, horses and rodeo, and hockey – Go Flames Go! Her biggest interests include hiking, photography, and motorcycles (drop by with your bike next time you visit!)
Kiefer
Kiefer joined the optical industry in 2022 and has successfully settled into many important roles at our clinic. As an optometric assistant, Kiefer helps our patients through the process of exam booking and pretesting, providing contact lens training, and more recently, has moved into a new role, assisting patients in choosing their next eyewear. His favourite part about the optical industry is learning new techniques and processes of glasses development and fabrication.
Kiefer was born and raised in Calgary and has many interests including linguistics, insects, and pro wrestling. Around the clinic, he is known as our walking encyclopedia. If you want to know a fun fact, ask him next time you’re here! In his spare time, he can be found reading and studying, playing music (did you know he has composed for local films and video games!?), or spending quality time with his wonderful partner of over 10 years.
Andra
Andra entered the optical industry in 2020, bringing with her 30 years of experience in the field of ophthalmology. Since joining our clinic, she has taken on several key roles and become an integral part of our team. As an optometric assistant, Andra guides patients through the exam booking process and pretesting procedures. She especially enjoys helping people achieve their best vision and is always eager to answer any questions they may have about their eye care needs.
A lifelong Calgarian, Andra has a wide range of interests, including cars, animals, and sports (especially the Flames and Blue Jays, and the Oilers when she has to be – she even played fastball for 20 years!) In her free time, she enjoys watching baseball or hockey and cherishes moments spent with her husband, their two wonderful children, and fur babies.
